Drill Team/Color Guard

What is the Drill Team/Color Guard?
The mission of the Detachment 020 Drill Team is to maintain and employ a ceremonial capability to represent the UofA Air Force ROTC program, public, and official ceremonies. Its composed of two entities:

  • Drill Team: performs exhibition drill (spinning rifles, etc.) Color Guard: responsible for presentation of the colors
  •

Meetings
Meetings are held weekly for one hour; the day and time are decided by the members each semester. The meeting times for the coming semester have yet to be determined so new members can vote on a time and day. Anyone is welcome to come, GMC or POC. If a member is too busy they can still be on the team, participate in activities, and come to the competitions, but they are not required to compete.

Competitions/Invitations
Competitions take place during the Spring semester. We have also received invitations to the Mardi Gras Drill Meet at Tulane University, and will hopefully be able to attend the next meet.

  • SCIDM - Southern California Invitational Drill Meet
  • NIDM - hosted by the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO

The competition color guard practices 10 hours per week in order to achieve perfection and get ready for competitions against other main universities. Only the four members of the competition color guard practice this much; the entire team is not required to practice to this extent.

The Drill Team/Color Guard has also received invitations to the following:

  • Tucson's Hispanic Coalitions
  • Football games
  • Parades
  • Presentation of the colors at McGee Middle School and others
